Located near Clearwater, BC, getting to Helmcken Falls is quite the drive in through Wells Gray Provincial Park. The lookout is not much of a hike in before you notice the amazing waterfall in front of you.

 

Once you have realized how spectacular this waterfall is, you would probably want to have a closer look. Your curiosity may take you onto the Helmcken Falls Rim Trail on the east side of Helmcken Canyon.

 

It is advised that insect repellent be worn (use those with the ingredient Deet as I find it to work the best) because of the amount of bugs in the area! You will be required to maneuver in and around fallen trees and obstacles that may be obstructing the trail.

 

Caution should be taken when hiking by the canyon as there is nothing holding you back from taking a plunge into the canyon.

 

This hike is recommended for novice or advanced hikers. The only advice I really have for you on this one is to have fun and enjoy yourself! There is not much tourist traffic along the trail except for at the look-out on the other side of the falls. Be sure to give  yourself sufficient amount of time for your return trip and to bring bear spray as I've seen multiple bears roaming this part of the country!
