Joffre Lakes
Joffre Lakes Provincial Park, BC
The provincial park is located just north of Pemberton, BC and is very popular amongst tourists and locals in the summer. The trailhead begins in the parking lot and is hard to get lost on as the trail is well-defined.

A short walk from the parking lot is Lower Joffre Lake, which offers spectacular views of the lake itself, Mt. Matier, and Joffre Peak. As you continue your hike up toward Middle Joffre Lake, be aware of your surroundings as this was where I came face to face with a big black bear trying to raise four cubs. As you reach Middle Joffre Lake, there is a fallen tree that can be walked on; this offers for a great photo opportunity for those who aren't afraid of getting a little wet! Continuing along the trail, you will meet a waterfall that is nothing short of spectacular. Soon, you will reach Upper Joffre Lake, which is a popular spot for camping, and lunch breaks.

For those looking for more of a challenge, I highly recommend you follow a beaten path up toward the Matier Glacier. You will not be disappointed with the views of Lower Joffre, Middle Joffre and Upper Joffre Lakes from up top of Mt. Matier along side of Matier Glacier.

*Coming back down from Mt. Matier is a bit of the challenge due to the amount of loose rocks and gravel (scree). Trekking poles are recommended for ascending and descending purposes.

*If you are staying a while and camping, please be aware of falling ice coming from the glacier above!
