Located deep by the popular Upper Kananaskis Lake, this hidden gem provides you with stunning views of Surrail Mountain with little effort. A short hike in from the parking lot located right by Upper Kananaskis Lake, you will hike past a waterfall and along Upper Kananaskis Lake.

Once you reach Rawson Lake, the trail continues along the left side of the lake, which brings you around Rawson Lake and under Surrail Mountain. This is a particularly troublesome area during spring and early summer as snowed in areas on and around Surral Mountain can pose as potential avalanche danger. During the late summer months, one can continue on this trail and head up to Surrail Ridge and have a view of Rawson Lake from up top!

This is a family-friendly hike with stunning views and areas where you and your family can eat lunch. After your hike, you can even spend the rest of your day at Upper Kananaskis Lake soaking in the sun, swimming and/or even boating!

If the weather is wet or has the potential to be wet, wear waterproof hikers and be prepared to get your hikers and legs muddy! Although there are paths laid down to help hikers avoid the mud, there are some areas where you will inevitably encounter this delightful brown substance.

*Remember, you are in bear country! Make a lot of noise or hike in groups of 4! Talk along the way! What should you talk about? What your next meal is going to consist of, your kids, your girlfriends, your boyfriends, your life, his/her life, current problems, etc... just keep talking! Stay SAFE!
